Plot |
Two magicians who have known each other since adolescence turn their rivalry into a bitter fight for magic supremacy. Robert Angier and Alfred Borden meet as stagehands when Robert's wife Julia tragically dies during performance. Robert accuses Alfred of having caused her death. They both set out on independent carreers as magicians but are tied together by their hatred and desire to inflict harm on each other. Robert is attempting to kill Alfred who in return exposes Robert's magical illusions. After tricking each other in an increasingly complicated fashion, Robert and Alfred confront each other in a grand finale during which one has to readjust one's view on reality several times till finally only one of them survives their battle of wits and devestation. |
